Key Material Trends - Fall/Winter 2021-22 (Trend Council)

Published
May 3, 2021

Fall Winter 2021 saw many designers and retailors trying to figure out how and where to get textiles during a global pandemic. Many turned to upcycling by using deadstock base cloth and added additional techniques to create an updated feel through pleating, quilting and laser cutting.

Laser Cut : Laser cut technology has now become mainstream and a signature design element for many designers. This season we see more geometric expressions as well as shapes drawn from nature.

Velvet : Velvet gets new life through tie dye and dip dye techniques, heavy washes, broomstick pleating and crushed effects.

Quilting : With the popularity of the puffer jacket and vest we see more creative applications with abstract geometric stitchwork as well as oversized blocks and more intricate floral motifs.
