Who's Next: Back to September

Published
Sep 26, 2014

As FashionMag Premium reported on Monday, September has been very tempting. Now the decision has been made. WSN has gone back to its old schedule.

Beginning in 2015, Who’s Next will take place from September 4 - 7. In 2012, WSN, which purchased Fire Ready-to-Wear Paris in 2011, originally decided to move the show to early July in order to fit in with Paris’ spot on the international calendar, i.e. after Florence and before Berlin, London and Copenhagen.

But the aim of attracting more international visitors did not seem to pan out and the fall in the number of French visitors was particularly sharp, with an 18% drop in the number of French buyers.

Faced with this situation, organizers conducted an extensive survey. "It showed that over 60% of exhibitors and 73% of customers surveyed agree that the first weekend in July is not the ideal date, with a majority voting for a return to September," reads a statement.

The exhibitors and visitors interviewed frequently mentioned the dilemma of a show organized during the first weekend of “les soldes”, France’s biannual sales event. For their part, the organizers also hope to benefit from the appeal of Maison & Objet and Paris Design Week, which attracts many foreigners to Paris.

By going back to the September dates, Who's Next follows the lead of the jewelry trade show Bijhorca, which suffered the negative consequences of holding two editions in July 2012 and 2013, when it felt obliged to follow the clothing trade show. The event, organized by Reed, was held this year from September 5-8, with apparently positive results.
