Uniqlo will open its largest store in Spain on October 6 in Madrid

Uniqlo is finalizing the opening of its second store in Madrid, which will also be the Japanese retail chain's largest store in Spain. The Japanese fashion retailer has announced that its new space at number 37 Gran Via will open its doors on October 6.

The 2,000-square-meter store, spread over four stories, is located in an emblematic building in the capital, which once housed the historic Avenida movie theaters and the Pasapoga showroom.

As is customary in the Japanese brand's stores, its interior design will combine modern and minimalist elements with the property's classic fixtures, such as its chandeliers, mirrors, marble staircases and panelled ceilings.

This latest store opening will bring Uniqlo's total number of stores in Spain to five. The firm made its debut in the country in 2017 with store openings on Paseo de Gracia and the Glòries shopping center, which are both located in Barcelona. In 2019, Uniqlo arrived in Madrid with its first location on Serrano street before expanding in the Spanish capital with another store on Diagonal. In 2021, the company opened a new store in La Maquinista shopping center.

Uniqlo, known for its "Lifewear" concept, which focuses on timeless, functional garments and textile innovation, is owned by the retail giant Fast Retailing, owner of other brands such as Helmut Lang and Comptoir des Cotonniers. With this second store in Madrid, the brand will have 68 stores in Europe, spread over nine markets.

Uniqlo's arrival on Madrid's Gran Vía will be one of Madrid's major projects in 2022, after the WOW concept store, a project promoted and led by Dimas Gimeno, former president of El Corte Inglés, opened its doors in the spring. Zara also opened its flagship store in the Edificio España building during the first half of the year, about 10 minutes away from the Japanese company's new location.
