Tiffany reveals plans for new exhibition space at iconic Fifth Avenue flagship

New York-based jewellery brand Tiffany & Co. has released exterior renderings of the renovations taking place at its emblematic Fifth Avenue flagship, revealing the addition of a contemporary glass exhibition and event space to its upper floors.

Located at 727 Fifth Avenue, the 10-story flagship will see its top three floors transformed from office space, originally constructed in 1980, to a new space for exhibitions, events and clienteling.

The space will be surrounded by an undulating glass curtain, designed to complement the classic limestone façade of the floors below, which became an icon of modern design when they were built in 1940.

The concept for the new exterior intends to create visual continuity with the rest of the structure, while also setting it apart as an innovative addition to the building. Providing a sense of openness thanks to its extensive use of glass, the space also opens onto an outdoor terrace offering views up Fifth Avenue to Central Park.

Inside, the new addition will seek to echo the atmosphere of the flagship’s main floor, offering a column-free exhibition and event space with double-height ceilings.

“The Tiffany & Co. Fifth Avenue flagship is arguably one of the most beloved and well known luxury retail spaces in the world,” said Tiffany & Co.’s chief artistic officer, Reed Krakoff, in a release. “Tiffany’s newly transformed flagship will reflect the future of our brand, while honoring our 183-year legacy.”

The transformation of Tiffany’s Fifth Avenue flagship began in spring 2019 and is being carried out in collaboration with The Office for Metropolitan Architecture, led by Shohei Shigematsu.

The renovation is expected to be completed in spring 2020.
