Supreme partners with Barbour for waxed cotton capsule

New York streetwear brand Supreme has tapped British lifestyle brand Barbour for a spring collection. 

The capsule, consisting of a field jacket, crusher hat, camp cap and waist bag, pays homage to Barbour's heritage.

In the 1980s, Barbour went from a brand with a history of producing oilskins and other garments for the sailors, fishermen and dockers in the North East of England, to a globally known name with the launch of three wax cotton jackets: the Bedale, the Beaufort and the Border. In a tribute to this turning point, the pieces made with Supreme all feature waxed cotton, and the lightweight waxed cotton field jacket is directly inspired by the Bedale, which was originally designed as an equestrian jacket.

The collection made its public debut via Instagram, where Supreme posted several photos of the collaborative pieces modeled by English skateboarder and fashion designer, Blondey McCoy. 

With its stores in the U.S., UK, France and Japan remaining temporarily closed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Supreme x Barbour collection will see a global online-only launch. Via Instagram, Supreme announced that the capsule will launch on Supreme's main web store on May 7 and will become available in Japan online on May 9. Supreme said that shipping fees will be waived on all orders over $150.

The Barbour collection marks the latest in a series of recent releases from Supreme. In April, the streetwear brand unveiled a special edition of its signature Box Logo t-shirt with artist Takashi Murakami, and announced that 100% of the proceeds would go to the housing charity, Help USA. In total, the charitable t-shirt initiative raised over $1 million, according to industry reports. 

Also in April, Supreme debuted yet another Spring 2020 capsule made in collaboration with the Dublin-born rock band, My Bloody Valentine.
