Rodarte ditches New York for Paris, will move to couture schedule

Rodarte is Paris-bound this season. The Los Angeles-based luxury fashion brand announced this week that it will show its Fall 2017 collection during Paris Fashion Week in March instead of New York Fashion Week this February.

Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy will show the Rodarte Fall 2017 collection in an intimate presentation for buyers and editors, and they will show the Spring 2018 collection in Paris as well. The sisters also decided to show their runway collections in January and July on the couture schedule, and they will add a third collection of lifestyle pieces for the year.

Laura Mulleavy told the press that the move to Paris will capture the best audience—the top editors and buyers. In addition, showing collections in January and July allows for longer production times and longer time at retailers.

She said, “The selling period is the key issue. At our company, our number-one goal is always to create the beautiful, detail-oriented clothing that people desire from our brand. We want to feed our product into the marketplace on an earlier delivery schedule.”

Rodarte has won several awards since it was founded in 2005. After launching, the brand was awarded the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award, and it was nominated for numerous CFDA/Swarovski awards including CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year, which the sisters won in 2008.

Rodarte has been a New York Fashion Week regular since its launch, and it’s the latest from a number of brands to ditch the American fashion week.
