Roberto Cavalli: Peter Dundas new creative director

Published
Mar 19, 2015

Things are becoming more clear at Roberto Cavalli. After weeks of rumours, the Florentine house has announced the appointment of Peter Dundas as creative director of the group. The first collection by the Norwegian designer for Roberto Cavalli will be unveiled in Milan in September.

Peter Dundas will be directly responsible for the creative direction for the women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections, as well as all the licenses. He will also be directly involved in the marketing and communication strategies of the brand, the house said in a press release, emphasising how "this global commitment will make it possible to reposition the brand created in the 1970s by Roberto Cavalli."

The group has not specified, however, what the future role of the brand's founding designer will be. The brand is currently completing negotiations for the company's transfer to Italian investment firm Clessidra. The operation should be finalised and made official by the end of March/beginning of April.

Since October, rumours had been swirling that Peter Dundas would be the next designer in charge of creative at Roberto Cavalli. Indeed, he was pronounced to be the ideal successor to the Florentine designer, for whom he had already worked between 2002 and 2005.

Peter Dundas is thus leaving Emilio Pucci, where he has been artistic director since 2009. In six years he managed to relaunch the label from the LVMH group by broadening its offer with intelligence via pieces that are both sexy and sophisticated and particularly appreciated by buyers. The designer previously worked at Jean Paul Gaultier and Christian Lacroix.

"The choice of Peter Dundas represents the desire to continue with a certain style that is highly appreciated and innovative while respecting tradition and glamour, characteristic elements of the Cavalli world that have stood the test of time," said Roberto and Eva Cavalli.
