Rebecca Minkoff profiles inspiring women this fashion week

Rebecca Minkoff is sitting out New York Fashion Week this season, but that doesn't mean she will be keeping a low profile.

The US fashion designer, who is expecting her third child shortly, will be showcasing her see-now-buy now Spring/Summer 2018 collection by promoting 20 powerful women, Women's Wear Daily reports. The cast includes members of the Women's March committee, as well as actress Zosia Mamet, fashion editor Zanna Roberts Rassi and TV personality and author Gretchen Carlson.

The profiles go live Thursday, although Minkoff has already offered a sneak peek at the project on Instagram, sharing a photo of Zosia Mamet wearing a shirt emblazoned with the phrase "Girl Power." Minkoff offered an explanation with the photo, saying: "Guys, I began thinking about doing something that matters most to me, for the brand and actually just plain MATTERS in general. Right now standing up for equality, empowerment and fundamental human rights is key more than ever before. We've profiled The committee of the Women's March and strong feminist leaders of the movement as they rally from NYC to Vegas -- bringing power to the polls. So excited to share these fearless women with you!"

Minkoff's choice of subject is entirely topical, given that the 2018 edition of The Women's March will take place across the US on January 20 and 21.

The designer joins a select group of fashion creatives skipping the catwalk this season in favor of alternative presentations, including Anya Hindmarch and Vivienne Westwood.
