HRH Prince Charles announced at the first ever Wool Conference at Dumfries Hose in Scotland that he will extend his patronage of The Campaign for Wool for a further five years to 2021.

The event, held last Friday, was organised by The Campaign for Wool and supported by Marks and Spencer. It was the largest and most prestigious international gathering of wool experts ever held in the UK and brought together key members of the fashion industry to discuss issues such as animal welfare, sustainability and quality, environmental issues and slowing down fast-fashion turnover.

Fashion industry heavyweights were in attendance, including Sir Paul Smith, Eco Age founder Livia Firth, British model David Gandy, President of Conde Nast International Nicholas Coleridge, Paolo Zegna, chairman of Ermenegildo Zegna and M&S CEO Steve Rowe.

As part of the event, The Campaign for Wool and HRH The Prince of Wales presided over the signing of the Dumfries House Wool Declaration – a promise to uphold the best possible practices for sheep welfare and a commitment to promoting the natural benefits of the wool fibre.

The Campaign for Wool was launched by the Patron in 2010 to raise awareness about the unique benefits of wool and call attention its ecological advantages. The campaign has been celebrated in key international markets including the United Kingdom, Australia, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, South Africa, Canada, United States of America, New Zealand, Italy, Japan and China.
