Primark expands US footprint with American Dream mall store

Value fashion retailer Primark is continuing its rollout in the US and said this week that its newest store there will open on March 19. Located in the new $5 billion American Dream mall and leisure complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey, it’s the firm’s second store in the state.

Primark will be part of the first wave of retail offerings at the highly anticipated location and will be opening what is its 10th store in the US and 378th globally. The company has been taking its US expansion at steady pace since it set foot there in September 2015. 

But after a fairly slow start, and some right-sizing of stores, its American ops seem to be building momentum and their performance overall has been positive. It has also announced it will open stores in Florida, Chicagoand Philadelphia in the next 12 months.

The new store will comprise 42,200 square feet of retail space over a single floor and will include its women's, men's and children's fashion offer, as well as lingerie, beauty and homewares. It will also feature Primark's ranges of products made using sustainable, recycled and organic materials. 

The company said the new opening is creating more than 300 local jobs, including retail assistant, supervisor, management and visual merchandising roles. Recruitment is still under way.
