Paris June trade shows cancelled due to Covid-19

Published
Apr 1, 2020

France's fashion trade shows and federations are in agreement. Faced with "the unprecedented context of the global health crisis," the industry players that would normally be working flat out to organise presentations of menswear and resort collections in Paris this June have published a joint release announcing that their summer editions have been cancelled.

Splash Paris, Tranoï, Unique, View, Interfilière and Man have all cancelled their June editions - Splash Paris

At the end of last week, the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode already announced the cancellation of Paris Fashion Week Men's and Haute Couture Week. It was just the news that the Parisian trade shows whose dates traditionally line up with those of the menswear runway season had been waiting for before confirming their own plans. On Wednesday, Splash Paris, Tranoï, Unique, Interfilière, View and Man therefore announced the cancellation of their upcoming summer editions, most of which were scheduled to take place between 26 and 28 June.

"The most important issue for us has always been how to guarantee decent working conditions, safety and quality of service for our teams, exhibitors and visitors. Therefore, in the absence of reliable previsions concerning the date and conditions under which the current crisis might end, and bearing in mind that it is now impossible for many brands to comfortably design and produce their collections, we have collectively decided to cancel or postpone our trade shows," explained the event organisers in their release.

The idea of postponing the trade fairs depends largely on the possibility of hosting them during the French capital's next womenswear fashion show, which is scheduled to take place from 28 September to 6 October. These plans may, however, be overly optimistic.

"In the spirit of solidarity, and in line with our conviction that recovery will only be possible if all industry players work together and mobilise, we are already discussing new events to be held in September 2020, which will allow Paris to strengthen its position as the fashion capital of the world," the release concluded.
