Paris Fashion Week: Issey Miyake plays with nature, vivid colors and overlays

One highlight of the second day of men's fashion week in Paris was the Issey Miyake show that took place in the gardens of the Musée du Quai Branly. The theme of the show, which was inspired by Tokyo and Mexico City and was filled with color, was nature, both in palette and prints, sprinkled with the poetic touch that the Japanese brand is known for.

It wasn't just the collection itself that proved poetic, but the entire atmosphere surrounding the Issey Miyake Men show, from the music to the décor, and obviously the choice of the gardens of the Musée du Quai Branly as a staging ground.

The theme was evident from the get-go, with flowing silhouettes and printed patterns directly inspired by nature, though with an almost urban feel. There was an emphasis on birds, generally yellow on a blue background, though sometimes green on white, which brought the image of leaves to mind. These birds were, in fact, parrots, and their photos were taken by the famous photographer Yoshinori Mizutani.

The male wardrobe according to Issey Miyake

With this new collection, Issey Miyake is taking a brand new approach to the male wardrobe, especially the suit, which here was presented in either ultra-wide or skinny, just like the shorts in the collection, and paired with XXL blazers, or simply with a vest or tops worn with nothing underneath. The classic shirt has also been hijacked, transformed here with prints, pleats and bright colors.

The rest of the show highlighted long and short jumpsuits, also cut loose and with overlays. They were worn solo or over a shirt, with a bright colored belt around the waist.

The color spectrum went from dark blue to bright yellow, also including turquoise, pink, red, purple and a few touches of orange. More sober colors such as black, grey and white also featured throughout the show.
