Over 220 Martin Margiela pieces will be sold at auction by Sotheby's

This coming September, Sotheby's auction house will be exhibiting and auctioning off no less than 220 Martin Margiela creations in Paris.

Fashion mavens will relish the chance to look back on the designer's singular history, (re)discover his innovative approach to fashion, and maybe even go home with a rare piece from a private collection.

Discreet and singular Belgian couturier Martin Margiela has spearheaded a revolution in the world of fashion with his avant-garde "deconstructivist" approach to design, putting forth a penchant for white and original or upcycled materials.

Martin Margiela's journey and creative process will be honored this coming September through an auction conducted by Sotheby's. A selection of 220 pieces of clothing and accessories dating back from his beginnings in 1989, all the way to 2006, spanning his entire career, will be exhibited in Paris from September 20 to 25, while an online auction will take place from September 19 to October 1.

Among the iconic piece will be a linen canvas jacket from the "Stockman" collection (Spring-Summer 1997 (estimated going price: between €7,000 and €9,000), leather confections from the famous Fall-Winter 1992-1993 "Salvation Army" collection (expected to start at €1,800), the infamous adult-size doll clothes from the Fall-Winter 1994-1995 collection (starting at €800-€1,200), and a spectacular vest made of playing cards (between €8,000 and €10,000).
