New York Men's Fashion Week is taking shape

Published
Dec 8, 2014

As we reported in September, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), which organises New York Fashion Week, wants to add London, Paris and Milan to the list of fashion capitals dedicated to men by organising its own Fashion Week dedicated to menswear.

Launched nearly two years ago, the project is currently taking shape and, if the American media is to believed, dates have already been chosen.

"We still have many points to verify, but we have tentative dates so that we can organise this first edition in July 2015," said Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA, to WWD.

Men's fashion week would take place from 20-22 July, at the same time as the Project, Liberty, MRket and Capsule professional trade fairs. If these dates are confirmed, the week will thus take place a few days after Paris haute couture and would not fall in line with the London, Milan and Paris men's fashion weeks. Organisers probably wanted to avoid America's Independence Day, which falls on 4 July.

Some ten menswear collections are already presented in New York, but as part of women's fashion week. If the New York men's fashion week takes off, it will of course disrupt the London, Milan and Paris calendars with the very likely assembly of several American labels in New York.

According to the press, Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors have already signed on, as well as Rag & Bone and Michael Bastian. Other American names that walk the runway in Milan, like John Varvatos and Calvin Klein, or in Paris, like Thom Browne, could also opt for a New York showing.
