Neiman Marcus settles data breach suit for $1.5M

Neiman Marcus Group LLC has reached a settlement with 43 states and the District of Columbia to pay $1.5 million regarding a 2013 data breach.

According to an AP report, the breach exposed and endangered customer credit card data at 77 Neiman Marcus stores nationwide. Over the course of three months in 2013, the information of approximately 370,000 Neiman Marcus credit cards were revealed. An investigation into the issue found that of those cards, at least 9,200 were later used for fraudulent purchases. 

As part of the settlement, the department store company has agreed to "maintain reasonable procedures to protect customers’ personal data and obtain an information security assessment and report from a third-party professional," AP said. 

The data breach was officially made public in 2014. 

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Neiman Marcus Group currently oversees physical and online operations at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman, among other retailers.
