NYFW to move out of Skylight Clarkson Square in 2018

Published
Jun 12, 2017

More changes are afoot for New York Fashion Week. Beginning in 2018, NYFW fashion shows will no longer be held at Skylight Clarkson Square in SoHo.

CFDA

IMG moved NYFW to Skylight Clarkson Square and Skylight Moynihan Station in 2015 after losing its five-year license at Lincoln Center “for causing disruption,” according to AFP.

Prior to moving to Lincoln Center, NYFW was held at Bryant Park, but that was until 2010. Fast-forward to this year and NYFW is moving out of its home again, with plans of moving to a new venue.

Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA, said in a statement, "The official venue of New York Fashion Week is New York City. The Skylight properties will no longer be an event space, so for season six of NYFW: Men’s in January and New York Fashion Week in February, there will no longer be a home base and the shows will be “decentralized.”

The move out of Skylight venues won’t affect the bigger names that show offsite like Marc Jacobs, or brands like Public School and Pyer Moss that show at Milk Studios every season, but it will impact the smaller names that benefit from the central location. Also, smaller brands may lack the bandwidth to create a full-scale production at a venue, which was supplied by Skylight and even Lincoln Center.

This news follows a series of changes for NYFW in a span of a few months. In April, the fashion week was shortened by one day for the spring 2018 season in September, and this month, the week will introduce First Stage, an international designer showcase that will precede the beginning of NYFW.
