Mr Porter launches British footwear capsule

Published
Apr 18, 2019

YNAP’s Mr Porter menswear e-tailer is ramping up its exclusive capsule collections and also focusing on its British heritage with the launch of a Best of British Loafers offer.

Mr Porter

The capsule features contemporary takes on the loafer from seven key names and highlights the importance of classic style to luxury menswear, something that forms the bedrock of the sector, compared to the more attention-grabbing looks put out by big-name runway designer labels.

The brands taking part include Cheaney, Prada-owned Church’s, Edward Green, George Cleverley, Grenson, John Lobb and Tricker’s.

They’ve come up with 29 styles in a range of leather, suede and tasseled versions.

It’s a good move from the e-tailer with, as Mr Porter said, loafers being “an essential component of every man’s wardrobe” and the summer season being particularly strong for this shoe type.

So what’s actually on offer? Well, Mr Porter has pulled together a selection that should target a very wide age and taste range.

Highlights include Cheaney’s Dover D penny loafer, which comes in a navy perforated leather and is unlined, adding to its appeal for warmer temperatures. And Church’s Oreham loafer comes in a burgundy polished-leather with distinctive kiltie fringing and tassels.

Edward Green has a contemporary touch with its Islington loafer in a warm and versatile light-brown snuff suede with a sturdy rubber sole that should appeal to a younger consumer. Also youth-focused, Grenson’s black suede and pony hair loafer has a chunky tonal black sole “serving up a fusion of punk and prep.”

George Cleverley’s “relaxed” Hedsor slipper comes in a supple navy suede with soft quilted linings for a comfortable fit; John Lobb’s Thorne penny loafer comes in a dark brown suede, and is “unlined for comfort and ease with a low profile rubber sole”; and Tricker’s classic step-in James loafer is made in a lightweight black suede with a rubber-crepe sole.
