Mary Katrantzou wins Swiss Textile Award

Published

Swiss Textiles Award, Mary Katrantzou
Mary Katrantzou
Mary Katrantzou just won at the eleventh Swiss Textile Award’s in Zurich. The young Greek designer became a finalist with Adam Kimmel (USA), Damir Doma (Croatia), Duro Olowu (UK) Jason Wu (USA) and Juun.J (Korea). Born in Greece in 1983, she completed her studies at London’s Central Saint Martins and presented her first collection at London Fashion Week in February 2009.

Unlike minimalism, the designer spoke more readily of "maximisation from an aesthetic point of view." Colours and prints are distinctive of her style. With this award, she follows in the footsteps of many renowned designers. Since its founding in 2000 by the Swiss Textile Federation, the Swiss Textile Award has been awarded in chronological order to; Daniel Herman, Tran Hin Phu, Benoit Missolin, Raf Simons, Haider Ackermann, Christian Wijnants, Bruno Pieters, Marios Schwab, Rodarte and in 2009 to Alexander Wang.
