Spanish clothing brand Mango is taking steps to become a more omnichannel business with the opening of a new digital innovation centre in Barcelona in 2019.

The company is analysing several locations within Barcelona’s 22@ district. The facility, which is expected to be operational from early 2019, will occupy a space of 800 to 1,000 square metres. Housing a digital innovation centre, its aim will be to “meet the ambitious growth targets established for the online business, and to develop the omni-channel selling projects planned for the coming years,” said the brand in a press release.

Mango said the opening will help it move closer to its ambition of being a digital leader in the fashion sector and a driver of change in the industry. The new innovation hub will join the brand’s existing offices in Palau-solità i Plegamans.

But only a small portion of its headquarters' staff will move to the new centre. Instead, the company is planning to create dozens of new jobs over the next two years and the new building is expected to house a total of 100 employees by 2021. Mango is currently recruiting for a range of technology jobs including software engineers, SEO experts and product owners, to name a few.

Online shopping is an important part of Mango’s business. The company has an online presence in 83 markets, and online sales account for 15% of its total revenue. And its e-commerce business is thriving. In 2017, it grew 15.4% to 339.2 million euros. This has prompted the company to expect online sales to reach 20% of total sales by 2019, bringing forward its target by one year.
