The company will continue to open larger format stores and close smaller units, and it expects to have 15,000 square metres of new retail space by the end of 2019, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

Since it began its store network transformation in 2012, the retailer has increased its global retail space by more than 300,000 square metres, while the average size of its stores has increased by 54%.

Thus, the Spanish company had 2,190 stores in 110 countries at the end of 2017, and its retail space had grown by 1.8% from 798,000 square metres to 812,000.

The company ended the year with 211 megastores, 20 of which opened during the year. Franchise stores accounted for 55% of the chain’s outlets.

Mango has also highlighted an increase in online sales, up by 15% in 2017 to 339.2 million euros. The online channel accounted for 15.5% of the company’s total revenue.

In 2018, online growth continued to accelerate and the company, which operates an online business in more than 80 countries, is confident that online sales will account for 20% of total revenues in 2019 - a goal that had been previously set for the end of 2020.

NEW OFFICES IN THE 22@ DISTRICT

Mango is also poised to open new offices at the 22@ district in Barcelona in early 2019. The facilities will occupy an area of between 800 and 1,000 sq mts.

They will house the company’s digital innovation centre, with a small part of the team based at the current headquarters in Palau-solità i Plegamans transferring to the new space. New staff will be hired gradually, reaching a total of 100 people in two years.
