Mango pledges 100% of the cotton it uses will be sustainably sourced by 2025

Mango is making progress on the way to becoming a fully sustainable fashion label. The Catalan brand has announced that, by 2025, 100% of the cotton used in its garments will be sustainably sourced.

This policy is consistent with the actions already taken in this field by Mango: in 2018, the label pledged that 50% of the cotton used would be sustainably sourced by 2022 and, in the same year, Mango joined the Better Cotton Initiative.

Moreover, Mango is set to increase the use of recycled polyester in its garments and, by 2025, it forecasts that 50% of the polyester used will be recycled. In a more long-term objective, the Catalan fashion label wants to make sure that, by 2030, 100% of the cellulose fibres it uses are of controlled origin. "This is a very important milestone, as it will help to improve the traceability of the materials used for Mango's collections,” it said.

Mango Committed, until now considered a capsule collection within the label’s general range, will become a permanent collection, featuring all Mango clothes made with sustainably sourced materials across different categories.

“The goals that we have set for our collection stem from our firm intention to pursue Mango’s transformation into a sustainable label as the company’s strategic mainstay, something in which everyone who is part of the company is involved,” said CEO Toni Ruiz.

In 2019, the label produced 18 million sustainably sourced items, double the number of the previous year, according to figures provided by the company. Mango has also initiated the Take Action environmental responsibility programme and, in 2019, it signed up to the Fashion Pact, a global alliance of companies aiming to promote sustainability in the textile and fashion industries.
