Le Bon Marché launches a series of unexpected collaborations

A simple ‘X’ is how Le Bon Marché has chosen to name its newest project, which aims to bring together brands that do not seem to share any common ground. From Feb. 12 to April 24, the Parisian department store, located on the city’s Left Bank, will be showcasing these unexpected collaborations, and inviting the artist Philippe Katerine to deploy his ‘migonisme’ vision.

"Our team encouraged the collaborating brands to have fun, and in turn, break codes and reinvent boundaries," said Le Bon Marché, which is no stranger to having different high-end brands collaborate, but they often do so in the same niche. For this occasion, however, abundant creativity was key as it was for Scholl and Eres in creating their lineup of sandals. Meanwhile, Patou tapped the Barbapapa characters for a ready-to-wear capsule collection and Baccarat joined forces with Pokémon.

Within the walls of the department store, Porsche and Tag Heuer will recreate a gas station, while a cocktail bar will emerge under the inspiration of the perfumer, Kilian, together with the Parisian nightclub, Castel.

Philippe Katerine's optimistic and playful aesthetic for Le Bon Marché - DR

To execute “this somewhat crazy playground", Le Bon Marché has decided to call upon the singer and actor Philippe Katerine, who is adding his humorous and creative touches into every corner of the department store. Think giant pink bubble gum sculptures, store announcements voiced by him, and musical performances. The artistic movement of 'mignonisme', which consists of "assembling two objects that normally shouldn't be put together," will thus be able to freely express itself.

The Su exhibition designed by artist Mehmet Ali Uysal, a monumental installation in the halls of the store, will still be on display until Feb. 20, and will then give way to Philippe Katerine’s antics from Feb. 26
