Japanese brand Tomorrowland confirms expansion abroad

Published
Dec 11, 2015

The ready-to-wear apparel brand was created in 1978 by Japanese designer Hiroyuki Sasaki, and is part of the eponymous group which currently owns Ballsey, Macphee, Des Prés, Knott, Bacca, Tomorrowland Boys & Girls, Caban Tomorrowland and Maison & Voyage Tomorrowland, a travel bag label.

The group also manages the Japanese distribution of brands such as Acne Studios, James Perse, Dries Van Noten and Isabel Marant, and has confirmed its intention to expand abroad.

After a first collection launch last year at Barney's in New York, as well as on the Mr Porter website, in Canadian multi-brand stores Want Les Essentiels de la vie and at Selfridge's in London, this season Tomorrowland opened its first store in New York.

The Japanese brand settled in premises on Broome Street, Soho. The store extends over 300 m² and features the brand's men's and women's ready-to-wear collections and its own jewellery and accessories line, as well as a selection of other labels, including Blue Work (denim), Hyke (outerwear) and Jean Paul Knott (sportswear).

Tomorrowland is a 'smart casual' brand, its strong suit being its expertise in fine fabrics such as cashmere, lace, tweed and jacquard sourced from Europe and Japan, some of them developed exclusively for the brand.
