Inditex, owner of apparel chains like Zara and Bershka, is committed to a global transformation strategy aiming for full sustainability, set to culminate in the year 2025 and covering areas such as design, manufacturing, logistics, stores and raw materials, as the group aims to become a leader in sustainability.

“We want to make Inditex a company that is fully sustainable in all aspects of the business,” said the group’s president Pablo Isla, speaking at the group’s AGM held at Inditex headquarters in Arteixo, Spain.

Next year, all Inditex stores will be eco-efficient, the use of plastic bags will be completely abandoned, and containers for collecting used clothes will be installed in every store.

By 2023, all shop waste will be recycled, and 100% of disposable plastic in consumer packaging will be eliminated. By 2025, 80% of the energy utilised by Inditex will come from renewable sources, and 100% of the cotton, linen and polyester fabrics used by the group’s brands will be organic, sustainable or recycled.

In addition, Inditex will set up a Sustainability Commission within the board of directors, to ensure these environmental and labour rights commitments are followed up on.
