Havaianas sells 260 million pairs of shoes in 2021
In 2021, Brazilian footwear brand Havaianas sold 260 million pairs of shoes, 30 million more than in 2020, a record for the brand. Sales for Havaianas, owned by Brazilian footwear group Alpargatas, were worth BRL3.61 billion (€622 million) in 2021, equivalent to a 25.7% increase. In the same period, Havaianas’s EBITDA was BRL722.8 million (€126.2 million), up by 16.9%.
Outside the Brazilian market, Havaianas’s sales were worth BRL1.24 billion, up by 41.5% over 2020. In Europe, the brand’s revenue was BRL688 million, equivalent to a 34.7% rise. In Brazil, the brand’s domestic and main market, sales reached BRL2.66 billion, growing by 19.5%.
Over the last two years, the Alpargatas group has invested BRL900 million (€157 million) to accelerate the growth of Havaianas, though the latter is not the only brand to which the group is strongly committed.
In December 2021, Alpargatas, which in 2021 recorded a revenue of BRL3.94 billion, up by 25.6% (91% of total revenue was generated by Havaianas), invested in Rothy's, a San Francisco-based brand that specialises in recycled shoes.
