Harrods, Selfridges, Macy's 'most popular' department stores globally

Published

If there was a World Cup for department stores, Harrods would be the clear winner. In a major accolade for London retail, Harrods is the most popular department store in the world with Selfridges coming in second place, new data reveals.

New York’s Macy’s is placed third with Paris’s Galaries Lafayette taking fourth spot, and Saks Fifth Avenue placed fifth, according to findmycasino.com.

Ignoring things like sales and footfall, the website actually used three metrics to determine the top department stores, including average global Google search volumes, along with Instagram hashtags and TikTok views.

Harrods scored 10 out of 10, with 134,000 people per month Googling the store, while shoppers have so far uploaded 1.5 million images of the retailer on Instagram.

Selfridges, with a score of 9.49 out of 10, with Google searches for the retailer averaged 109,000 per month. However, it’s loved on TikTok, with over 47 million views on the platform.

Macy’s, the largest department store in the US, had a lower Google search ranking, but the store still receives over 1.2 million hashtags on Instagram, and 2.3 billion views on TikTok.

London did, however, boast a fifth of the entries in the top 15 of the study, with Liberty coming in at #8. And while it scored a more modest 8.37 overall score, the central London store managed to trounce every single opponent – including Harrods – in the Tik Tok ranking, attracting an impressive 30 billion views.
