Gucci to present Cruise collection in London’s Westminster Abbey

Italian designer label Gucci is planning to host its next Cruise show in the Cloisters of Westminster Abbey, marking the first time a fashion show is allowed to be presented on the site.


The show will be held on 2 June


According to The Telegraph, the first to report the news, the luxury fashion and accessories brand will host its show on 2 June at the iconic venue, which has been the traditional place of coronation for British monarchs and where Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011.

“London is always on my mind and in my memories. I’m obsessed with British culture, past and present,” said Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s Creative Director to The Telegraph. The designer described the opportunity to present at Westminster Abbey as “magical”.

The Cloisters of Westminster Abbey are arguably Gucci's most impressive site to host a Cruise runway show, at a time when this category is becoming increasingly relevant for the fashion industry.

The brand’s 2016 Resort show was staged in New York in an exposed-brick walled galley, while the 2015 Cruise collection, designed by former Creative Director Frida Giannini, was held in a penthouse suite at the Carlyle Hotel in New
