Goat launches 'Try-On' AR technology

Published
Oct 4, 2019

Sneaker resale platform Goat is testing the waters of AR.

The latest Try-On feature allows GOAT users to experience rare sneakers from wherever they are. - Goat

The marketplace launched on Wednesday “Try-On”, a new feature that allows users to virtually wear sneakers including a rare and rather pricey selection.

Prior to the Try-On feature, the company launched a first-look at rare sneakers via augmented reality that allowed users to get up close and personal with rare and exclusive kicks.

The latest Try-On feature allows users – some 20 million - to experience what some of the most highly coveted sneakers look like on their own feet, from wherever they are.

"Product innovation has always been an integral part of our business and after early success with our previous AR launches, we knew Try-On was something we had to offer our community," said Daishin Sugano, co-founder and CPO of Goat Group.

"We're committed to sneaker culture and hope our new feature will elevate the experience of discovery for our community."

Brands featured on the app, founded in 2015, include Nike and Air Jordan styles, including rare Dunks, Air Force 1s and unreleased samples.

Fans of the Dunk silhouette will find the Deftones, FLOM, Wu-Tang and Iron Maiden.

Meanwhile, Air Force 1 fans will find the Stash, Black Album, Head Automatica and Stash x Futura, while unreleased samples feature the Air Jordan 4 'Purple Travis Scott,' Air Jordan 3 'Fragment,' Air Jordan 4 'Undefeated' and Air Yeezy 1 'Glow in the Dark Tour.'

Earlier this year, NYC-based sports and footwear retailer Foot Locker Inc. made a strategic minority investment of $100 million in the platform, betting on synergies between the companies’ to ultimately offer customers exclusive experiences.
