Flashy highlighter and intricate braids: beauty notes from Milan Men's Fashion Week

Milan Men's Fashion Week dominated the headlines this weekend -- partly thanks to the visionary Fall 2018 fashion collections, but also thanks to a series of quirky beauty looks.

Despite the event's name, several of the big shows featured both male and female models -- with an androgynous approach to hair and beauty further blurring the traditional gender frontiers. At Versace this meant that the boys -- as well as the girls -- sported perfectly manicured brows, photoready matte complexions and plump, hydrated lips. At Prada, men and women alike sported luminous complexions emphasized by splashes of shimmery highlighter and lip gloss.

Unconventional hairstyles have also proved popular in the Italian city, with Moschino debuting a series of subversive-looking hair horns alongside its classic old-school finger waves -- a look that underlined the kinky nature of the label's new collection. At Diesel Black Gold, the models wore their hair in braids twisted into geometric shapes -- a folkloric look that was matched the minimalist patterns painted onto their faces. Elsewhere, MSGM opted for more traditional but equally exuberant curly styles, while Emporio Armani kept things slick, ice cool and slightly retro with a gelled-back look.
