Estée Lauder group president for North America to exit

Published
Nov 16, 2021

New York-based beauty conglomerate The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) announced on Tuesday that, after almost 25 years at the company, Chris Good, group president for North America, will be retiring effective June 30, 2022.

Good’s successor has not yet been named, but the executive has committed to working closely with the individual in order to ensure a smooth transition, once a decision has been made.

Good has been leading ELC’s North America business for the last five years, overseeing the region’s retail and organizational transformation, while also laying the foundations necessary to drive growth and operational efficiencies. Under his leadership, the company’s North American business returned to growth in fiscal 2021 and, according to ELC, has continued its momentum into fiscal 2022.

As part of the company’s North American transformation, the executive developed the region’s data analytics capabilities, accelerated its online business, reinforced retail relationships and optimized the local brick-and-mortar network.

During his tenure, Good also had to steer the region through a number of headwinds, including the unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic over the last year and a half.

The executive first joined ELC in 1987, when he worked in marketing for Clinique in the U.K. and Ireland. He then took on senior marketing and general management roles in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region at Unilever, before returning to ELC as general manager and regional vice president for Asia-Pacific at the Clinique brand in 2000. In this position, he played an important role in developing the brand’s Japanese and Chinese affiliates in their early days.

Good became general manager of ELC’s Russian affiliate in 2005, then senior vice president for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, India, and Africa in 2008. Following this, he was appointed managing director of UK and Ireland in 2012, before being promoted to the role of president for UK and Ireland in 2014.

“Chris is a visionary, global leader who is deeply admired at ELC and recognized across the beauty industry worldwide,” commented ELC president and CEO Fabrizio Freda in a release. “With his extensive international background, Chris’ leadership agility and deep insights into our diverse markets and consumers around the world have made an indelible impact on our business.”

The announcement of Good’s retirement comes as ELC prepares to promote Peter Jueptner and Nadine Graf to key global leadership roles ahead of international group president Cedric Prouvé’s departure in June 2022.

In the first quarter ended September 30, 2021, ELC reported net earnings of $692 million on sales of $4.39 billion. Compared to the prior-year period, when sales totaled $3.56 billion, the company’s quarterly revenues represented growth of 23%.
