Eastbourne's The Beacon to welcome Skechers, Quiz

Two fashion brands have signed up to open stores at the £85 million extension to The Beacon in Eastbourne.

American footwear firm Skechers and Scottish womenswear retailer Quiz will join the centre’s 170,000 sq ft extension, which has been opening in phases since December 2018.

UK stationery and lifestyle brand Neon Sheep will also open a shop there, the centre owner Legal & General announced.

“Since the first phase of the extension opened before Christmas, we have seen the steady arrival of new brands to the centre which is particularly impressive considering the current economic climate within retail. It shows the appeal of The Beacon that has transformed the face of shopping in Eastbourne,” said Andrew Rice, fund manager at Legal & General.

These latest names will join H&M, Next, FatFace, Schuh, Jack Wills, New Look, Flying Tiger, Paperchase, JoJo Maman Bébé and Lovisa’s on the ground floor of the extension.

But according to media reports, the extension has been less successful with restaurant operators, with four big names pulling out of plans to open there in recent months. Byron, Wagamama, Carluccio’s, Frankie & Benny’s and Chiquito’s have announced they will not move forward with their plans amid various headwinds in the casual dining market.

Legal & General rebranded The Beacon, formerly known as Eastbourne Arndale Centre and invested £85 million to build a retail and leisure extension to further cement its reputation as a leading shopping destination.

Other brands trading at the mall include Primark, River Island, Pandora, Arcadia and Boots.
