Dolls Kill raises $15 million in funding to drive brick-and-mortar expansion

Published
Jan 5, 2019

Californian e-commerce platform Dolls Kill, often described as the successor of Nasty Gal, has announced that it has received $15 million in funding. The funds will allow the pure player to capitalize on the experience gained through its first two brick-and-mortar locations.

The retailer has opened boutiques in San Francisco and Los Angeles - Dolls Kill

With a decidedly edgy offering, Dolls Kill caters, in its own words, to "misfits" and consumers who are at "the back of the class, but the front of the clubs". Founded by former DJ Shooddy Lynn and Bobby Farahi, the company opened its first physical store in 2017 in its hometown of San Francisco, in Haight-Ashbury, once a hippy enclave, now a hotspot for alternative and niche retailers. Following the success of this first location, a second 550-square-metre boutique was opened last September in Los Angeles, on Fairfax Avenue, a stone's throw away from a Supreme store.

It's not the first round of funding completed by Dolls Kill. The company, which reports some $7.6 million in sales, already received $5 million from investment fund Maveron in 2014. The retailer's offering currently includes brands such as Killstar, Poster Girl, Sugar Thrillz, Widow, Dr. Martens, Current Mood and Club Exx.
