Dolce & Gabbana to stage spectacular Shanghai show

Dolce & Gabbana is heading for Shanghai, where it will stage an event like “never before.” Entitled ‘The Great Show’, the event is a mega catwalk show featuring also dance, music and high-tech galore. It will be held on November 21 at the Expo Center in the city’s Pudong district, overlooking the Huangpu river. “It is the biggest production of its kind to be staged in the country this year,” as FashionNetwork.com was told by a Dolce & Gabbana source.

The idea is to showcase the luxury label’s world of fashion, while paying tribute to Chinese art and culture. An approach which Dolce & Gabbana is now fond of adopting, having showed its recent Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria collections, the women's and men’s couture collections, in very special locations. In the last few years, Dolce & Gabbana staged such shows in Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York and, more recently, Mexico, each time turning them into special events specifically tailored to the local audience.
 
In Shanghai, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will not however present their new couture collection, but an entirely new ready-to-wear collection consisting of over one hundred looks, featuring the label’s signature expertise spiced up by forays into Chinese culture. The mega show, at which several hundred guests are expected, will be centred around three themes: Dolce & Gabbana’s design DNA, the future and the millennial generation, and the Chinese New Year.

China is one of Dolce & Gabbana’s main markets, with 44 monobrand retail outlets in total, between stores, corners and shop-in-shops, of which eight are located in Shanghai.
