Coty announces new CCO, premiere chief digital officer

Published
Oct 22, 2020

Coty Inc., parent company of brands like Covergirl, Rimmel and Clairol, has named Isabelle Bonfanti as chief commercial officer, luxury, and Jean-Denis Mariani in the newly created role as chief digital officer.

Both will report directly to Sue Y. Nabi, chief executive officer.

As CCO, Bonfanti will be responsible for developing and executing Coty’s global Luxury sales strategy to increase market share, grow revenues and develop the company’s organizational profile, Coty said. She will start in her new role on November 1.

Previously, Bonfanti worked in L’Oréal’s luxury division for 17 years across a variety of international general management and commercial roles, spanning fragrances, cosmetics, and skincare.

She also previously worked for Hermès for over nine years, serving as director of event communication projects for home, jewelry, silk and fashion and as director of international retail business development and communication for home collections, among other roles.

More recently, she worked on brand development and turnaround for the Huawei consumer business group and for Hexa Surfboard, a digital native brand start-up.

Mariani is expected to start as chief digital officer on November 1, and will be responsible for the transformation of the company’s approach to digital, including global e-commerce and DTC, Coty said.

Mariani comes to the company from LVMH-owned perfume, makeup and skincare company Guerlain, where he served as chief digital officer and as a member of the executive committee.

During his time with the company, he led Guerlain’s digital transformation and e-commerce acceleration over 35 countries, including China, Japan, the U.S., France, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia. He was also responsible for e-business, CRM, content, digital marketing, innovation, analytics, social insights and customer care.

According to Coty, the appointment of its first chief digital officer comes "as the company generates record e-commerce sales, with e-commerce penetration more than doubling in recent months" and with its e-commerce sales for beauty "continu[ing] to surge."

Coty also announced that Edgar Huber, chief commercial officer, is leaving his role after five years at the company. He will remain with Coty for several months, and will work alongside Bonfanti.

The company said it plans to update its consumer beauty commercial organization and announce a consumer beauty leader in the near future.
