Columbia Sportswear taps Bait for fishing-inspired apparel collection
Columbia Sportswear has partnered with Los Angeles-based Bait for a fishing-inspired streetwear collection, consisting of key components of the U.S. outdoorwear brand's performance fishing gear (PFG) archives.
In an Instagram post on Saturday, Bait -- a streetwear and sneaker retailer based in Diamond Bar, California -- announced it has tapped the Columbia archives to design a "new and sleek" 'fishing' capsule. Brushed in a salmon, pastel and khaki color palette, the collection features reworked Columbia PFG pieces, "built tough for the environment", with pieces made to be water resistant and functional.
Key items include the fishing vest, which features pockets for accessories and more, while the fishing anorak zips up and protects from the elements. A pair of performance pants also convert to shorts via a zip design, "preparing for unpredictable conditions" or to simply "cool off," said Bait in its Instagram post.
Bait has also reimagined the Columbia Arque sneaker in a salmon colorway. The shoe features a lightweight abrasion-resistant polyurethane rubber outsole built for all conditions, and a suede upper and neoprene bootie with "salmon scales." Finally, Columbia's Techlite+ technology provides cushioning and stability for outdoorwear.
Founded in 2013 by Eric Cheng, Bait is a U.S. streetwear and sneaker retail store that first bowed in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles.
It is also the physical store for parent company PickYourShoes.com. Since its inception, Bait has collaborated with the likes of Reebok, Asics, Saucony and Onitsuka Tiger, and sells its own in-house apparel line alongside a wide selection of sneakers and streetwear. In the last nine years, Bait has opened eight more U.S. stores, including another in Los Angeles on Melrose Avenue, as well as stores in Santa Ana, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Denver and Honolulu.
The Bait X Columbia Sportswear collection is available now via Bait's webstore and across Bait's retail network in the U.S.
