Centre:MK bucks national trend as footfall rises

Published

Major Milton Keynes shopping mall Centre:MK said Monday that it’s bucking the overall trend in retail footfall with its visitor traffic having risen 2.5% year-on-year in 2019.

And using figures from specialist tracking company Springboard, it also said that last year showed “changing footfall patterns and shopping behaviours with significant growth [on] Mondays and Sundays, as well as post-5pm.”

The mall, which was recently named one of the top 10 shopping centres in the UK by GlobalData, has continued to attract new tenants, despite the large number of store closures that have been seen in the UK in recent periods. Last year saw the opening of Primark, Skechers, Neon Sheep, Newbie, Typo, Chatime, Morano’s, Trailfinders, Lovisa and Lush.

The mall also said that it saw more than 3 million visitors over the Christmas period with more than 100,000 turning up on Boxing Day. That’s a significant achievement given the large fall in Boxing Day traffic across the country as a whole.

UK-wide footfall figures in recent days have shown that Boxing Day proved to be less of a draw for Britons in 2019 as a hugely successful Black Friday and other key shopping days stole its thunder.
