Carlo Capasa named head of Camera della Moda

Published
Apr 10, 2015

The chamber of Italian fashion is taking a new direction by naming Carlo Capasa its new president. He succeeds Mario Boselli, who is stepping down from the presidency after 15 years.

Boselli will nevertheless remain active at the organization and will be nominated honorary president on May 14.

Meanwhile, the Camera della Moda has announced that its current CEO, Jane Reeve, will step down from her role on June 30. Capasa will thus have three months to gradually take the reins of an institution that is currently the target of a solid amount of criticism.

In the spring of 2013, the Camera della Moda changed over its board of directors with the election of big names from Made in Italy, including the heads of Prada and Tod's, Patrizio Bertelli and Diego Della Valle, as well as Angela Missoni and Ermenegildo Zegna, while undergoing major restructuring. But, over the course of two years, with a lack of resources and cohesion, it has fallen short of repositioning Milan as a world fashion capital.

The role of CEO was created during this reorganization. Jane Reeve was named to the position in September 2013. Coming from a communications background, Reeve never truly managed to impose her will.

Capasa, meanwhile, belongs to a fashion family. He runs the Costume National fashion house, which he founded with his brother, designer Ennio Capasa. He is also among the new names that joined the Camera della Moda’s board in 2013.

He notably supervised the Camera’s digital department and oversaw the redesign of the association’s website, which features nearly 140 brands and fashion houses (with the exception of Dolce & Gabbana). The Camera will thus have a younger president who is familiar with new communication tools, and who has been chosen to  highlight Italian fashion and bring Milan back to the front of the international stage.
