Cannes 2017: jury member style - the highs and lows, so far

Jury service at Cannes isn't just about being a discerning film critic, jurors are also tasked with the phenomenal feat of looking the part. Take a look at how this year's jury members are shaping up in the style stakes...

For the opening ceremony and screening of "Ismael's Ghost," Chinese screen siren Fan Bing Bing's red carpet look was a class act. The actress took a leaf out of Grace Kelly's style bible, appearing in an elegant powder blue silk chiffon Elie Saab dress with delicate plissé detailing and matching cape.

Caméra d'Or President Sandrine Kiberlain's delicate tulle dress, featuring shimmering embroidery by Christian Dior was another notable red carpet look to come from the festival's eagerly-awaited opening ceremony.

A well-orchestrated monochrome move was made by French actresses Sandrine Kiberlain and Elodie Bouchez. Kiberlain and her jury member shared a red carpet moment in gowns of complementary classic black and white. Kiberlain paired an effortlessly chic black dress with spaghetti straps and flats while Bouchez channelled Victoriana chic, revealing a little midriff in the process.

There's no denying that when it comes to the tricky-to-wear shade of 'kelly' green, US actress Jessica Chastain wears it well. Her A-line Christian Dior dress and coat ensemble, however was a far too overpowering choice, in comparison with the wealth of flashbulb-friendly outfits hitting the red carpet.

"Kill Bill" star and President of the Un Certain Regard jury Uma Thurman looked anything but 'pulled together' on Thursday when she appeared in a mismatched leather biker jacket and pink maxi skirt.

A style detail we hope jurors won't hit 'repeat' on? Black overload -- playing it a little too safe French actress Agnès Jaoui and Maren Ade's sombre head-to-toe outfits lacked both imagination and that all important wow factor that the world has come to expect from Cannes' stylish guests.
