Angel Chen is revealed as H&M's latest designer recruit

H&M has joined forces with the Chinese designer Angel Chen for its latest high-end fashion collaboration.

The Swedish fashion giant will roll out a 45-piece capsule collection designed by the creative this September, WWD reports. The move marks the brand's debut collaboration with a Chinese creative.

The series draws on Chen's own portfolio of luxury designs and the concept of Chinese martial arts, spanning ready-to-wear separates that feature culturally symbolic motifs such as bamboo, dragons and cranes.

"When I was designing the capsule, my priority was to reflect Chinese culture and my brand identity in a meaningful way, sell through became secondary," Chen told WWD. "I chose some iconic looks from my archive, and gave it an update in colorway, material and details."

"We hope to arouse more public attention to the Chinese young designers' creativity and influence within the Chinese as well as international fashion industries," added Magnus Olsson, country manager of H&M Greater China.

The series will go on sale online and in-store in China and other countries with significant numbers of Chinese shoppers, such as Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Canada.

The move comes months after H&M announced a collaboration with the Italian haute couture designer Giambattista Valli, which is set to launch fully on November 7, following the release of a nine-piece series that debuted back in May. Additional designers to have participated in H&M's legendary high-low fashion collaboration program include Moschino, Karl Lagerfeld, Kenzo and Balmain.
