Adidas lifts sales ban on Amazon and Ebay

Published
Jul 4, 2014

Adidas has finally included online marketplaces as part of its retail distribution. The German company, a global sports and lifestyle fashion giant, had announced a few months ago that it would privilege certain sites specialized in sports over places like Ebay or Amazon, so that it would be "represented in the best environment."

Adidas opens its distribution to marketplaces.

"We have decided to extend our e-commerce guidelines to also include open market places: if our retail partners adhere to our criteria, there will be no restriction for online sales in any channel,” said the brand in a statement.

The company justifies its change in position regarding online marketplaces by emphasizing technical developments and the growth of the e-commerce market over the past two years. The announcement notably follows an investigation by the German cartel office into the company’s business practices vis-à-vis certain distributors.
