May 13, 2013
This Autumn, downtown LA will welcome California’s first Acne store. The Swedish brand has secured a 450m² location in the city making this store opening its biggest yet. Aside from menswear, womenswear and accessories, the store will feature a café run by the owners of Stockholm’s popular ‘Il Caffè’.
“We were really looking at Melrose in the beginning, but then we went to downtown L.A. Maybe it’s a European thing, but we really liked the area. Obviously, people have been saying downtown is going to happen and have been saying that for 10 years and it hasn’t really, but we really liked it there, and we really liked the building,” said Acne chairman Mikael Schiller. The building in question is the art-deco Eastern Columbia Building.
With annual turnover at almost 100 million euros, the Swedish brand distributes its collections via 650 points of sale across the world, including 30 flagship stores. Last year the brand celebrated the opening of its Soho store and its first Japanese boutique in Tokyo, as well as its second Copenhagen store. A second London store is on the cards for this year and well as an address in Osaka. In the meantime, Acne will continue show its womenswear collection at Paris Fashion Week.
