080 Barcelona Fashion: from the kings of Antonio Miro to the "British" style of Macson

Spanish brand Macson put the finishing touches on the opening day of the Catalan runway. The family-run company, founded in 1942, celebrated its 75th anniversary with the first runway show of Barcelona fashion week. The show represented a return to the British tradition and essence of the brand, which opened its first store in the Barcelona neighborhood of Gràcia in the 1970s.

The brand, which currently has 70 stores, presented a collection of 36 looks titled “The last exit.” The show was defined by a rebellious streak unconcerned with traditional prints, mixed with natural textiles and a sophisticated color palette which passed from purple to ochre amidst various earth tones.

The autumn/winter 2017/18 collection was designed for the event and used the current trend of “see now buy now” as a way of expanding the presence of the brand, which has recently debuted in new markets and introduced a perfume line.

For his part, Antonio Miro presented a collection for spring/summer 2018 titled “The Crown.” The brand, which won the best collection award at the fashion week’s 19th edition, was loyal to its characteristic lines without forgetting about versatility and innovation.

Under the creative tutelage of Albert Villagrasa, the Barcelona-based company was inspired by the fascination with certain contemporary figures. Modern-day kings and queens were dressed in white, black, red and gold, embellished with gold and rhinestone trimmings. The collection followed the brand’s straight lines, combined with materials like cotton, poplin, wool, tulle, mesh and denim with technological embellishments made by visual artist Lauro Samblás.

Children’s lines The Little Creative Factory and Bóboli had their turn in the morning, while the afternoon brought the award-winners from last year’s edition: Daniel Rosa with a return to its “Roots,” and the Valencia-based designer Miquel Suay with “Courage,” a collection of tulle and pleats which played with voluminous silhouettes inspired by the Borgias.

The winner of last year’s 080, Oscarleon, continued the presentation, with a collection titled “Love smells like a rose.” The show presented asymmetric and boundary-pushing garments made from a studied pattern, in fresh and cheerful tones which contributed an experimental energy; all the pieces were meant for a bold and energetic woman.
