The Selfridges 2016 Bright New Things bursary goes to Katie Jones

Published

Luxury British knitwear label Katie Jones has been announced as the recipient of the Selfridges 2016 Bright New Things bursary, winning £30,000 and a year of mentorship.

Katie Jones - Selfridges

Katie Jones, a Central Saint Martins graduate, leads the company, which utilises designer surplus, factory seconds and textile waste to create colourful and artisanal knitwear. Each garment is consciously crafted in the brand’s London studio and takes between 10 and 100 hours to make.

With the Selfridges Bright New Things scheme, the label will be able to be transformed into a truly sustainable business. The grant is part of Selfridges’ ongoing commitment to nurturing young creative talent and this year the institution partnered with the Centre for Sustainable Fashion to put the focus on sustainability.

Katie Jones was selected among nine candidates that put sustainability and design at the heart of their practice.
