Vision 2017 - Ruffled Up (Geraldine Wharry)

Published
Jan 19, 2017

Roos Abels “Mirage” by Txema Yeste for Numéro Magazine

Beyond Seinfeld’s iconic shirt, the ruffle has managed to take its Elizabethan and 16th century European roots and propel them into 2017. The drama of fashion, as always, anchors itself strongly in historical references.

In 2016, ruffles became a key detail. In 2017, ruffles do more than adorn a garment. They sculpt and extend it to new dimensions as seen in Molly Goddard and Marques Almeida.

Embracing its origins in 16th century German military clothing, ruffles are seen in the most directional casual Fall Winter 2017 collections at Craig Green and Sibling.

In a coup de grace, trousers in a variety of lengths and shapes get the freshest update seen in years, with ruffle strands cascading and creating dynamic 3D effects, as seen our full image gallery linked below.
