MMFA spotlighting haute couture this summer

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) is spotlighting haute couture and looking behind the scenes of fashion this summer with a series of films and lectures in connection with its newest exhibition.

Among the activities featured alongside the exhibition “Love is Love: Wedding Bliss for all à la Jean Paul Gaultier” featuring bridal creations from Jean Paul Gaulthier, the MMFA is teaming up with the Festival Mode & Design to present “Think Fashion Through Exhibition” on August 24, as well as a fashion film on haute couture dubbed “Qu’est-ce que la haute couture ?” and a lecture with a heritage fashion specialist entitled “Ode au savoir-faire français”.
 
Kicking off the fashion series on August 24, the lecture “Think Fashion Through Exhibition” will include a conversation with Thierry-Maxime Loriot, curator of the exhibition and others, along with Luca Marchetti, a professor at the University of Bologna and author of the book Fashion Curating – La mode exposée. The discussion will be moderated by Stéphane Le Duc, producer, reporter and editor-in-chief of the magazine Dress to Kill. The lecture will discuss the recent fascination with fashion in museum exhibitions and fashion as art. The presentation will then be followed by the fashion film “Jean Paul Gaulthier Travaille”.

Then on September 20, at 6 pm Sylvie Marot a heritage fashion specialist, will discuss the craft of haute couture, which will be followed by a film viewing on September 21 of “Qu’est-ce que la haute couture ?” that will delve into the houses of Chanel, Dior and Schiaparelli to offer viewers a backstage look from Paris Fashion Week 2016.
 
"Love is Love: Wedding Bliss for all à la Jean Paul Gaultier" launched on May 27 and will run until October 9.
 
The MMFA is Quebec’s most visited museum.
