Kanika Karvinkop opens No Borders in Mumbai

Published

Kanika Karvinkop has opened a boutique in Mumbai’s Khotachi Wadi colony that sells a mixture of vintage designer clothing and indie labels.

Kanika Karvinkop has opened a boutique in Mumbai’s Khotachi Wadi colony, No Borders - No Borders- Facebook

Karvinkop’s new boutique, situated in the 200-year-old bungalow of the fashion designer James Ferreira, is an eclectic mix of vintage luxury fashion from abroad and contemporary Indian designers. The boutique is increasingly bringing in international labels from countries such as Peru, Ghana, Morocco, and Puerto Rico.

Karvinkop’s latest edition is a capsule collection of beaded jewellery by the America-based Nepali designer Arpana Rayamajhi which is just as colourful as the store itself.

After pop up events at Ferreira’s bungalow, No Borders is now there to stay along with its impressive collection of vintage Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Dior, Alexander Wang, and Ferreira among other labels. Some of the store’s international brands include Knobbly, jewellery from Israel, Nejine Jasmine, contemporary Afghan embroidery, and Luiny Jewellery.

“No Borders is a concept store that focuses on diversity in fashion, culture and art,” Karvinkop told Vogue. “I’m always inspired by designers who focus on their country’s heritage and use indigenous textiles. I spend a lot of time picking, choosing and curating artists that I like and think fit the ethos of the store. We focus on designers’ stories, the people they work with and their backstory.”

The store’s next project is bringing in a limited edition collection by the Indian label Péro that will feature up-cycled garments originally by Dior, Ralph Lauren, and Levis denim jackets.
