Intu Milton Keynes mall expansion gets green light

Published

Shopping centre owner Intu is moving forward with the next phase of the proposed Intu Milton Keynes extension after receiving approval by the secretary of state this week.

The scheme will be one of the most significant retail and leisure development projects in Central Milton Keynes in over a decade.

Intu plans to add 100,000 sq ft to the prime 430,000 sq ft shopping centre to create a new dining quarter over two levels and a five-screen boutique cinema. This includes the space in and around Oak Court and Midsummer Boulevard, which will be remodelled to provide “a welcoming environment and enhanced ambience.”

“We’re delighted that our proposals have been supported by the Secretary of State. This will allow us to move forward with our plans to provide an outstanding city centre public space for Milton Keynes,” said development director Martin Breeden.

The centre boasts top retail brands such as Victoria’s Secret, Apple, H&M, Hugo Boss, Superdry and Zara, and attracts 16 million visitors each year.

The redevelopment will make sure the mall “punches its weight in terms of attracting the best brands and maximising its potential for people to spend their free time,” said Breeden.
