Inditex’s Uterqüe arrives in China in partnership with Tmall

Uterqüe, Inditex’s premium fashion brand, is arriving in China with the opening of its first flagship store in Tmall, the world’s largest e-commerce platform owned by Chinese group Alibaba.

The online store will become the first point of sale for Uterqüe in the country, however the brand has confirmed it hopes to open physical stores in the near future, the Asian giant announced in a press release.

The multinational company founded by Amancio Ortega is partnering again with Alibaba to boost its presence in China, following in the footsteps of Zara, Zara Home, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Pull and Bear, Stradivarius and Oysho.

The vice president of Tmall Fashion, Anita Lyu, was pleased about Uterqüe’s launch on the platform. “With the rapid growth of the market for high-end goods on Tmall, more and more premium fashion brands from Europe and North America have joined the platform, even opening a store on Tmall ahead of its brick-and-mortar roll-out,” she said.

Grupo Inditex’s premium brand has 91 stores across several international markets, but had yet to explore China, where the Spanish group has 576 stores across the country, led by its flagship brand Zara with 178 stores.

Tmall also features Spanish fashion brands such as Desigual, Mango and Pretty Ballerinas, as well as the jewellery brand Unode50, while Moschino, the iconic Italian luxury brand, has recently opened a store on Tmall Luxury Pavilion.
