Champion to open first store in the Netherlands

American sportswear brand Champion has announced plans for a first store in the Netherlands. The label will set up shop at Reestraat 9 in Amsterdam.

Champion will be situated at the popular shopping destination 9 Straatjes, which is located in the city center of the Dutch capital. The 180 m2 store space is divided over the ground floor, mezzanine and basement in a building that formerly housed Dutch label, Zoe Karssen.

The 9 Straatjes shopping district is home to many retailers, restaurants and bars. In addition to serving Dutch consumers, the area is also a well-liked by tourists. Brands such as Nudie Jeans and Dutch luggage label Travelteq have also landed at the district in recent months.

To date, Champion was only available to Dutch consumers via specific points of sale, including e-tailer Zalando and Dutch retailers Aktiesport and Perry Sport as well as via the brand’s own web store.

The Hanesbrand owned Champion currently operates stores in the United States, Asia and Europe. Earlier this month, the brand debuted its first ever US-based brand store in Los Angeles, after its first European standalone store opened in London in July 2017.

Further information regarding the Amsterdam branch is to be announced.

Champion consulted international real estate advisor Cushman & Wakefield during its entrance into the Dutch market.
