On 20 October Amsterdam Fashion Institute and Circle Economy will host the annual symposium, Beyond Green. Beyond Green bring together students and international industry professionals and focuses on sustainability and the future of fashion.

The 2017 theme is ‘Beyond blah blah.’ According to the organization, this year’s event is designed to show how the fashion industry should cut through the noise, the pledges and the ambitions that often surround sustainability initiatives in the fashion industry, and move straight into practice. The program is based on 5 steps that introduce innovative solutions and knowledge that should make it possible to awaken the fashion industry and move it towards a circular and a sustainable future.

The program consists of workshops, panel discussions and talks by 6 keynote speakers. The 2017 keynote speakers include: Laure Hunter, head of copy at Futerra; Vanessa Belleau, head of fashion and home shopper marketing UK at The Walt Disney Company; Suzanne Smulder, Lena the fashion library; Robbert Wefers-Bettink, co-founder of Dick Moby; Kathleen Talbot, VP operations and sustainability at Reformation; and Neliana Fuenmayor, founder of A Transparent Company. Gwen Cunningham, Circle Textiles program lead at Circle Economy, will moderate the talks.

Amsterdam Fashion Insitute (AMFI) is the largest fashion institute in the Netherlands. The college offers bachelors, masters and professional courses via 100 lectures, who teach more than 1,100 students. In 2005 the institute hosted the first edition of Beyond Green. Since 2016 AMFI has collaborated with Circle Economy, an Amsterdam-based non-profit, that promotes circularity through solutions, international campaigns, communication and engagement.
